1. Prepare Flatpak
Install Flatpak using your distribution's package manager. Add the Flathub runtime repository if it is not already configured:
flatpak remote-add --user --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepoThe KDE 6.10 runtime may need to be downloaded during installation. A working internet connection is required for that first download. LinScreen itself has no network permission.
2. Download and verify
Download the official Flatpak bundle and SHA-256 checksums into the same directory. Release files also include a Sigstore signature bundle.
sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMSThe Flatpak file must report OK. Do not install it if verification fails.
3. Install and run
flatpak install --user ./LinScreen-14.4.1-x86_64.flatpak
flatpak run org.linscreen.LinScreen --version
flatpak run org.linscreen.LinScreen
Local OCR included
Use Shift+T on a selected capture, choose French, English or both, and review the recognized text before copying it. Tesseract and language data are inside the bundle; no system Tesseract installation is needed. Recognition does not upload images. Corrected text is preserved after an unsuccessful, cancelled or empty retry.
Permissions and desktop requirements
The app has Wayland and fallback X11 access, graphics acceleration, notification/tray integration and direct document access to Pictures. The KDE runtime can also read theme settings. It does not request network access, unrestricted home access or permission to execute host commands. Inspect the installed permissions with:
flatpak info --show-permissions org.linscreen.LinScreenGNOME, KDE and other Wayland desktops still need a working xdg-desktop-portal backend. Files outside Pictures depend on the desktop's file portal. Portal permission dialogs remain controlled by your desktop. Close any already-running LinScreen instance before comparing packages; use the explicit flatpak run command to test this version.
Manual updates
No automatic LinScreen update repository is configured for this standalone bundle. Download and verify the new release, then reinstall its new bundle with flatpak install --user --reinstall ./NEW-BUNDLE.flatpak. Flatpak runtime updates are separate.
